Financial Industry Proposed Digital Asset ETFs, but Government Approved Leveraged ETFs/ETNs Instead
Ahead of a closed-door 'Capital Market Attractiveness Enhancement' meeting held at the presidential office on January 13, the financial investment industry submitted a policy proposal calling for digital asset ETFs and RWA tokenization.
The meeting was attended by then-Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom, financial regulators, and representatives from securities firms and asset management companies, including Samsung Securities ($016360).
Despite the industry's push to expand digital assets into mainstream financial products, regulators instead approved single-stock leveraged/inverse ETFs and ETNs based on Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares.
