FSA Approves Support for Trade Settlement Stablecoin Demonstration

  • The FSA selected a six-company consortium — including TradeWaltz, NTT Data, and Mizuho Bank — for its Payment Innovation Project (PIP) support, the 4th PIP case and 15th overall under the FinTech Proof-of-Concept Hub, established in 2017.
  • The pilot will connect the TradeWaltz trade platform with stablecoin infrastructure, triggering settlement once a bank confirms export documents and approves purchase of export receivables, targeting inefficiencies in paper-based trade finance (L/Cs, bills of lading).
  • The demonstration runs from September 2026 for an unspecified period; expected benefits include shorter lead times to fund receipt for exporters and more efficient settlement/confirmation processing for banks, with results including legal interpretation issues to be published on the FSA website afterward.
