[On the Scene] The World Is Locked in a Digital Finance Hegemony War — South Korea Is Still Stuck in Regulatory Debates
The Seoul Crypto Institute (SCI) held its founding seminar on October 28 in Jongno-gu, Seoul, under the theme of global competition in digital finance.
Hanyang University professor and SCI vice president Kang Hyoung-goo criticized Korea for focusing on narrow regulatory issues — stablecoin issuance rights and ownership caps for crypto exchange major shareholders — while the US and China compete over the future global financial order.
Kang likened Korea's regulatory debate to the Neo-Confucian disputes of the late Joseon (Great Han Empire) period, questioning what Korea is actually doing to prepare for the global shift toward crypto and digital finance (framed under the banner 'G3 Korea').
