FSS Governor Orders Full Inspection of External Access Points Between Crypto-Asset Industry and Financial Sector Over Hacking Incidents
On November 3, the FSS said Governor Lee Chan-jin reviewed sector-by-sector responses to recent financial-sector hacking incidents at an executive meeting and discussed measures to strengthen security.
Priority is given to inspecting external access points connected to systems handling customer and financial company assets, where an attack could directly cause financial losses; external access to these points is to be blocked in principle until vulnerabilities are fixed.
Recent hacking incidents have affected not only banks but also traditional financial firms such as securities and insurance companies, as well as firms not subject to the Electronic Financial Transactions Act, prompting the industry-wide inspection order.
