U.S. Treasury Sanctions Cambodian Senator, Citing Alleged Infrastructure Support for Crypto Scam Hubs

• The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated Cambodian senator Kok An and 28 individuals and entities linked to his scam network.
• OFAC said the network extorted millions of dollars from American victims through scammers in Southeast Asia, using romance and friendship pretexts to induce crypto transfers by promising investments and high returns before stealing the funds.
• U.S. authorities seized 503 illegal domains and indicted two people who ran scam hubs in Myanmar and attempted to build them in Cambodia, where forced labor of trafficking victims and signs of money laundering were also discovered.
