U.S. Treasury Sanctions Cambodian Pig-Butchering Hub, Exposing the Industrialization of Crypto Fraud
On local time the 24th, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Cambodian senator Kok An and 28 related parties over allegations that they operated large-scale pig-butchering scam centers in Cambodia, targeting organized crypto fraud and money laundering across Southeast Asia.
The Treasury said the scam centers stole billions of dollars from U.S. citizens, indicating losses worth trillions of won at an exchange rate of KRW 1,483.60 per USD and showing that pig-butchering has become an industrialized criminal ecosystem.
The sanctions are interpreted as a direct attack on large-scale crypto fraud and money-laundering networks based in Cambodia, putting pressure not only on individual perpetrators but on the broader organizations behind them.
