About

The Japan Cryptoasset Business Association (JCBA) grew out of a study group on crypto business for financial institutions, formed in December 2015. It was incorporated in March 2016 and took its current name in April 2020. Its chair is Noriyuki Hirosue, CEO of bitbank. On 2 September 2026 it had 156 member organisations: 32 regular, 104 associate, 4 special and 16 group members.

JCBA is an industry body for businesses in crypto assets, NFTs, stablecoins and other digital assets in Japan. It runs 15 subcommittees on topics such as tax, stablecoins, DeFi, staking, custody and security. It publishes industry guidelines, including three editions of its NFT business guidelines, RWA token guidelines in March 2025 and staking best practices in May 2026.

JCBA has sent tax reform requests to the government since 2016. On 30 July 2025 it filed a joint FY2026 request with JVCEA for 20% separate taxation, a three-year loss carry-forward and deferral of tax on crypto-to-crypto swaps. The FY2026 tax reform outline later adopted separate taxation and loss carry-forward. In 2026 JCBA held study sessions on moving crypto under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act. It also briefed an LDP project team on non-custodial wallets.
