About
The Korea Blockchain Industry Promotion Association (KBIPA) is an industry body for blockchain and Web3 companies. It was formed in 2017 and dates its official launch to 2018. It was the first blockchain organisation to receive incorporation approval from the Ministry of Science and ICT, and it lists more than 150 member companies.
Kim Hyung-joo led the association as chair from its founding until January 2026, when members elected Kim Jong-won, previously its auditor, as its second chair. KBIPA works on industry standards, education, government projects and regulatory reform, and runs a regular Web 3.0 Leaders Forum for member companies.
In August 2025 KBIPA launched a digital asset task force at the National Assembly Library, with working groups on stablecoins, security tokens, spot bitcoin ETFs and legislative support, to feed policy proposals to lawmakers. Its forums have since covered the stablecoin provisions of the Digital Asset Basic Act and a proposed Blockchain Basic Act that would give legal footing to distributed ledgers and smart contracts.
